These paintings can be viewed as melodic studies in their attempt to find the freedom and responsive range which is the natural province of music: something of a conversation between structure and interpretation. Their influence certainly originates with Kandinsky, but playfully invites the conclusion of various Eastern traditions and the newer physics, ennobling chance and undermining appearance and solidity.
